What to Do for Tennis Elbow
Chiropractic is most known for helping fix and support the spine. But, many Chiropractors help with the extremities (arms and legs) as well. A few of you have seen me recently for Tennis Elbow, so I thought I would send out some more information on this so people know how it develops and what you can do about it.
Tennis Elbow usually starts with some sort of stress in the arm. It could be playing tennis, but it could also be using the computer a lot, painting the house, or doing some rough housing with kids. For example, you might say, “I have been doing a lot of keyboarding lately” , “I have been playing a lot of sports”. This condition can create pain right away, but more often it sneeks up on you some days or weeks after.
What typically happens is that the muscles of your forearm get stressed and then they go into a guarding mode where they lock up the elbow joint from moving normally. Now you have a mess because neither the muscle or the joint can let go. You are left with an arm that doesn’t feel right, or flat out hurts and you can’t get rid of it.
The good news is there is help! Many people now know that when you have a problem with a bone or joint, your chiropractor is a good place to start. But, in case you didn’t know, now you do:).
The elbow is a vulnerable feeling area, but like any other bone and joint problem in the body, chiropractic treatment is usually safe and highly effective.
We assess which direction the elbow has subluxated (misaligned or stuck), and then we treat it by instrument or by hand to restore proper movement and function to the elbow. The sooner you come the less likely the body will develop deep habit patterns that take a while to fix, so it goes faster if you don’t wait.
Getting your elbow adjusted may feel a little strange, but its safe and very satisfying to get that painfree function back again!
So file this information away, and if you or someone you know is complaining about that ache or pain in their elbow, arm, or hand, it is commonly stemming from the elbow, and you know where to come. Schedule Here
