THREE STEPS TO FASTER SHOULDER HEALING

Here are the steps we follow to help a problem heal the fastest:
1) Step 1- Rest, ice, adjust- these are the best treatments for an initial injury, when you have just hurt it. Do this until swelling goes down and it doesn’t hurt even when you don’t move(it may still hurt when you move it). Duration: Approximately 1-2 weeks.
2) Step 2- Once the shoulder is feeling like it doesn’t hurt when it is still, you can now start gentle rehabilitation of it. That is stretching. Stretching will increase circulation and help to speed healing. Be careful not to do exercise yet, the tissues are too sensitive from injury and you can cause more damage that delays healing, if so. A good rule of thumb is if it hurts don’t exercise it. Duration: Approximately 1-2 weeks.
3) Step 3- Once the shoulder is tolerating nice stretching of it and there is MINIMAL to NO soreness, you can start exercise. The tissues are now strong enough to tolerate the exercise without re-injury. You can now start ramping up exercise to strengthen the shoulder, start with less than where you left off and work your way back up to 100%. Duration: Approximately 2-4 weeks.
Congratulations! You now have the proper steps to support fastest healing of a shoulder injury. Remember, everyone heals at different rates, so there isn’t a set time frame to do each step, but you will know when you can move to the next one by following the steps.
